I’m siting here in central Florida trying to decide if I should stay or evacuate from Hurricane MILTON. Right now I’m leaning toward staying, lots of reasons. Once you live in Florida you see things differently than when you watch it from a few states away on television.
We’ll see how well I did in about 36 hours.
In the meantime, I am also trying to keep working and stay on top of the other hurricane –– The WordPress.Matt.WPEngine debacle.
As I’ve written about this dynamic recently, the world of WordPress and CMSs and open source is irreversibly changing right now.

Wow, that’s a lot of shocking headlines for 1 week. Before that, in the past month, Matt called WP Engine a “cancer” to the community. That started the public fire and lawsuits. It’s all a bit crazy, but again I think necessary. Blow up the status quo, finally.
Matt Mullenweg, right or wrong (and possibly unintentionally), has introduced a step-function change in the world of content management, open-source, and web site ecosystems overall. The past is gone now, whether he realizes it or not, which I think is a good thing and we’ll all come out stronger.
WordPress is used by 43% of the web, so there will be a lot of large companies weighing in on this, a lot of speculators looking for a way to profit from this controversy, and Matt trying to make the best of this fight he’s now in. Is he scared? Probably not –– he knows that things need to change.
As for me, I will try to help the WordPress ecosystem to make the most of this moment. It will be exciting!
